Dr. Gary Matson is
a board certified family practice physician who has been providing
prolotherapy treatments to his patients since 1995. Many of these
patients had tried numerous traditional forms of treatment for their chronic back and neck injuries without success.
With prolotherapy their pain was relieved and they were able to return to their normal everyday activities.
Dr.
Matson also provides Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy, an advanced
form of prolotherapy. Professional athletes have
been using Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy to speed the recovery process
from sports injuries. Physicians are now providing this advanced
treatment to the general public. In PRP Therapy, the
patient's own
blood products (concentrated platelets) are used as the prolotherapy
solution to activate the body's own wound healing process. Dr. Matson
uses the highest quality equipment by Harvest Technologies to provide
this treatment.

Dr. Matson became a believer in prolotherapy when he himself was treated
for a chronic back injury due to weight lifting. Daily back pain
radiating all the way down to his foot was completely relieved with several sessions of prolotherapy. Seeing beneficial
results, Dr. Matson received training in prolotherapy so that he could offer this form of treatment to his patients.
Like himself, his patients were searching for an alternative to surgery for their chronic pain. Prolotherapy was
the answer!

Prolotherapy is a form of medical treatment in which a physician injects a specialized solution into weakened and injured ligaments, tendons or
joints. Ligaments are the strong band-like structures that hold
your bones and joints together. If these ligaments have been stretched or torn in an injury, the joints that these
ligaments hold together will become hypermobile causing pain when the hypermobile joint is stretched beyond its
normal limits.
The prolotherapy solution that is injected into these weakened
ligaments causes new, stronger ligament fibers to be formed.
This strengthens and tightens up the entire ligament, causing the joint to no longer be hypermobile and thereby
reducing the strain on nerves, muscles and ligaments.
Prolotherapy has been scientifically observed to increase the
size of tendons and ligaments up to 40%. No scar tissue is formed
(as would be the case in surgical procedures). The tissue formed from Prolotherapy is healthy, strong, flexible
ligament or tendon tissue. Once the ligament or tendon has been repaired by Prolotherapy, the nerves are no longer
stretched or irritated, and the pain goes away.
Prolotherapy can be utilized in the entire spine (neck and back), the sacroiliac joints, shoulders, elbows, hips,
knees, ankles, and temporomandibular joints (TMJ).

Prolotherapy is an approved form of treatment by the American Osteopathic Association and
is endorsed by the former Surgeon General of the United States,
C. Everett Koop, M.D.. Dr. Koop served as the Surgeon
General of the United States from 1982 to 1989, under Ronald
Reagan's presidency.

WHAT IS PROLOTHERAPY)
Physicians have been treating patients with Prolotherapy since the 1930's. Many of these patients had failed all
other forms of treatment for their injuries. |
You may be asking, "How many treatments will I need and how often
do I receive them?". Each patient will have individualized needs based on their injuries but the average number of treatments is usually between six and twelve. Treatments are usually given every
two weeks.
There are of course no guarantees with any form of medical treatment but Dr. Matson has had excellent success in
treating patients with prolotherapy.(Click on TESTIMONIALS) Many patients have been relieved of the chronic daily pain that was draining
them physically and emotionally. If you are suffering from a chronic ligament, tendon or joint injury you too may
find relief with prolotherapy.

Dr. Matson is a member of both major national prolotherapy/sclerotherapy
medical associations- the American Association of Orthopaedic Medicine and the American College of Osteopathic
Pain Management and Sclerotherapy. (Prolotherapy and Sclerotherapy
are synonymous terms for the same form of treatment.) He is a board certified family practice physician. As a D.O.(Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine)
Dr. Matson has specialized training in treating the musculoskeletal system. Many patients request that Dr. Matson
provide them with osteopathic manipulative therapy (O.M.T.) in addition to prolotherapy. O.M.T. is a form of treatment
similar to a chiropractic "adjustment", in which the osteopathic physician uses his or her hands to re-align
the spine or reposition joints. This treatment relieves pain and improves the blood circulation and nerve supply
to the injured area.

In addition, Dr. Matson has licensed acupuncturists in his office. Dr.
Matson believes acupuncture is a wonderful complimentary treatment modality for patients who have acute or chronic
pain.
As you can see, Dr. Matson's patients have several treatment options to choose from. Even though Dr. Matson for
the most part practices traditional western medicine he believes that alternative therapies such as prolotherapy,
osteopathic manipulative therapy, acupuncture and herbal therapy compliment traditional medicine and offer his
patients the best comprehensive medical care possible. www.sdacupuncture.net
Maintaining a healthy weight is very important not only for one's overall health but also in reducing joint problems

loss program Dr. Matson has ever seen(He lost over 40 lbs. on the program himself!). For information on this program
